Who Is Hofstra Rock Climbing Club?

The Hofstra Rock Climbing Club was founded in 2013 by Hofstra University students who wanted to share their love for rock climbing with their fellow students. It is a quiet kept secret but New York City is home to many elite rock climbing gyms. Every Saturday the rock climbing club takes trips to climbing gyms like The Cliffs in Long Island City, Queens and Brooklyn Boulders Downtown Brooklyn. It is during these trips to the gym that the club members learn the basics for climbing styles such as top roping which involved high walls and more equipment and bouldering which includes shorter walls and more technique.

Although the club primarily climbing indoors once a semester they head two hours north of campus to New Paltz for a weekend outdoor climbing trip. Hofstra Rock climbing sets up camp Friday on a site nearby and heads to Minnewaska State Park first thing Saturday morning for a day full of climbing. At Minnewaska State Park climbers climb the Shawanagunk Ridge which has a top elevation of over 2,000ft. Climbers have the option to top rope in the 60-80 ft range or boulder on the rocks nearby. They climb from park open till close and at the end of the day as the sun is setting all climbers hike to the top of the ridge to get a view of the entire park.
